Then, just as he drew near to the edge of the grove, he caught his breath in terror and the cold sweat leaped out on his fear-blanched face. She had placed it there after reading her son Anson his evening chapter. Slowly she mastered herself and sank back into her chair. Billy scratched his head reflectively. "Not much, any more," he said. "Course I like duck-shootin', an' do quite a lot of it in the fall.".
